The Ekiti State University (EKSU) Alumni Association

History

Historically, the Alumni Association of Ekiti State University was established in 1988 by a very few determined, focused and decisive individuals championed by Mr SB Akinsipe, Prof Ayan Adeleke and Prof Asaolu, The Trio were the pioneer financial members of the Association who kick-started with the selfless contributions of N25 (Twenty Five Naira) each totalling N75 (Seventy Five Naira) for the immediate running and start-up of the Association. The drive to organize and properly coordinate the affairs of the Association birthed Mr SB Akinsipe as the Pioneer President and Prof. Asaolu as the pioneer Vice President.

Over the years, the Alumni Association has played a pivotal role in fostering unity and development among its graduates since the university’s inception. The first cohort of graduates received their bachelor’s degrees during the inaugural convocation ceremony, marking the beginning of a robust alumni network.

Over the years, the association has been instrumental in supporting the university’s growth. Notably, the Alumni Association constructed an alumni center, providing a dedicated space for alumni activities and engagement. Subsequently, in 2009, the association built the Faculty of Law Moot and Trial Court, enhancing the practical training facilities for law students.

The association further expanded the scope of the association for greater impacts by mobilizing, coordinating and injecting vibrant generations of Alumni into the structures of the Association and established the first historic Alumni Village in Africa.

The association’s commitment extends beyond infrastructure; it actively engages in fundraising and endowment activities. Through the Advancement Centre, established by the university’s governing council, the association coordinates efforts to mobilize support from alumni and other stakeholders. These initiatives aim to provide scholarships, research grants, and other resources essential for the university’s sustainable growth.

As part of the Association’s drive to facilitate developmental and infrastructural projects within the University, we have continued to engage with numerous Alumni. These efforts have yielded remarkable results, including the construction of a state-of-the-art Student Centre, the donation of multimillion-naira computer systems to the Faculty of Law, and the establishment and equipping of the Alumni ICT Centre, among other notable projects, all of which have greatly benefited the University.

Today, the Alumni Association of EKSU continues to strengthen the bond among its members, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and dedication to the university’s mission. Its ongoing contributions significantly enhance the academic and infrastructural landscape of EKSU, reflecting the enduring commitment of its alumni to the institution’s excellence.
